Introduction

Al Gore has said there is an extremely small minority of scientists that don't believe in his view of Global Warming.  The following is a group of polls and surveys that show this isn't true.  This is followed by a small cross section of scientists, people in the media and politicians that are open enough to voice their opposition to these supposed facts.

Media

Global Warming Censored  by Julia A. Seymour and Dan Gainor  from the Business & Media Institute  The Business & Media Institute analyzed 205 network news stories about “global warming” or “climate change” between July 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2007. BMI found

1. a meager 20 percent of stories even mentioned there were any alternative opinions to the so-called “consensus” on the issue.

2. On average for every skeptic there were nearly 13 proponents featured. ABC did a slightly better job with a 7-to-1 ratio, while CBS’s ratio was abysmal at nearly 38-to-1.

3. Scientists made up only 15 percent of the global warming proponents shown. The remaining 85 percent included politicians, celebrities, other journalists and even ordinary men and women.

4. Only 22 stories (11 percent) mentioned any cost of “fixing” global warming. On the rare occasion cost came up, it came from the lips of a skeptic like Kentucky state Rep. Jim Gooch (D), who said one climate change bill in Congress “would cost $6 trillion.”

Lawrence Solomon's new book -- The Deniers: The World-Renowned Scientists Who Stood up Against Global Warming Hysteria, Political Persecution, and Fraud — and Those Who Are Too Fearful to Do So -- the environmental columnist for Canada's National Post lists a few of the "kooks" who haven't attained Al Gore's exalted level of scientific knowledge:  ...   Solomon was a member in good standing of the vast left-wing environmental conspiracy when he began a series of columns on prominent scientists who doubt or deny human influence in global climate change.  A founder of the Energy Probe Research Foundation, Solomon has focused on halting the growth of nuclear power and preserving the rainforest. "When I began," Solomon writes, "I accepted the prevailing view that scientists overwhelmingly believe that climate change threatens the planet. I doubted only claims that the dissenters were either kooks on the margins of science or sell-outs in the pockets of the oil companies."      Link

It´s time to pray for global warming  At December´s U.N. Global Warming conference in Poznan, Poland, 650 of the world´s top climatologists stood up and said man-made global warming is a media generated myth without basis.

The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming.  The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science.  The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming "incontrovertible  ...  Updated 7/17/2008  After publication of this story, the APS responded with a  statement that its Physics and Society Forum is merely one unit within the APS, and its views do not reflect those of the Society at large.  Link

Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov  head of the space research laboratory of the Russian Academy of Science's Pulkovo Observatory and of the International Space Station's Astrometria project says "the common view that man's industrial activity is a deciding factor in global warming has emerged from a misinterpretation of cause and effect relations."    Link   Head of Space Research, Pulkovo Observatory, in Russia said in January 2007. “It is no secret that increased solar irradiance warms Earth’s oceans, which then triggers the emission of large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck  “So far, real measurements give no ground for concern about a catastrophic future warming,” said Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck, a chemical engineer at Abo Akademi University in Finland, author of 200 scientific publications and former Greenpeace member.    Link

Dr. Syun-Ichi Akasofu  founding director of the International Arctic Research Center, twice named one of the "1,000 Most Cited Scientists," says much "Arctic warming during the last half of the last century is due to natural change."    Link

Dr. Claude Allegre  a geophysicist  and top geophysicist and French Socialist who has authored more than 100 scientific articles and written 11 books and received numerous scientific awards including the Goldschmidt Medal from the Geochemical Society of the United States, converted from climate alarmist to skeptic in 2006. Allegre, who was one of the first scientists to sound global warming fears 20 years ago, now says the cause of climate change is "unknown" and accused the “prophets of doom of global warming” of being motivated by money, noting that "the ecology of helpless protesting has become a very lucrative business for some people!"    Link 

Chris Allen, a Kentucky meteorologist,  said in February 2007, “All of this (alarmism) is designed to get your money and then guilt you in to how you live your life.”   Link

Dennis Avery  Environmental Economist and global warming co-author Dennis Avery's 2006 book, Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years, details the solar-climate link using hundreds of studies from peer reviewed literature and "shows the earth's temperatures following variations in solar intensity through centuries of sunspot records, and finds cycles of sun-linked isotopes in ice and tree rings."   Link

Sallie L. Baliunas of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center, and her co-workers studied records of the past 120 years and found the Sun responsible for up to 71 percent of the Earth's temperature shifts. When other factors were added to their research model, that figure rose to 94 percent.   Link

Timothy Ball, Canadian climatologist, recently called fears of man-made global warming “the greatest deception in the history of science.”   Link

Robert C. Balling, of Arizona State University, has spoken and written extensively against the widely held scientific view that the documented rise in global temperatures is the result of human activity and that serious consequences will result.   Link

Dr. David Bellamy   a famed UK environmental campaigner, former lecturer at Durham University and host of a popular UK TV series on wildlife, recently converted into a skeptic after reviewing the science and now calls global warming fears "poppycock." According to a May 15, 2005 article in the UK Sunday Times, Bellamy said “global warming is largely a natural phenomenon.  The world is wasting stupendous amounts of money on trying to fix something that can’t be fixed.” “The climate-change people have no proof for their claims. They have computer models which do not prove anything,” Bellamy added. Bellamy’s conversion on global warming did not come without a sacrifice as several environmental groups have ended their association with him because of his views on climate change.  Link

Joseph Bast of the Heartland Institute August 2007 may go down in the history of science as the month when scientific research made a decisive turn away from dubious warnings of climate catastrophes and toward a much different thesis, that the modern warming is moderate and not man-made.  Link

Joe Bastardi   AccuWeather.com's senior meteorologist and long range expert Joe Bastardi sent the global warming center a copy of his open letter to the 2008 presidential candidates.   ...  Within the first 100 days of office, get the top five SCIENTISTS on both sides of the issue in front of you in the oval office and let them argue it out. No cameras, no press, just you, your closest advisors, and the people that are qualified to do this. Have trusted members of both sides of the aisles, but get the politics out of it.   Link

Dr. William M. Briggs, a Climate statistician, who serves on the American Meteorological Society's Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review: “It is my belief that the strident and frequent claims of catastrophes caused by man-made global warming are stated with a degree of confidence not warranted by the data. […] Too many people are too confident about too many things. That was the simple message of the Heartland conference, and one that I hope sinks in.”   Link

Dr. David Bromwich  president of the International Commission on Polar Meteorology--says "it's hard to see a global warming signal from the mainland of Antarctica right now."

Dr. Reid Bryson, a Meteorologist, the founding chairman of the Department of Meteorology at University of Wisconsin (now the Department of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, was pivotal in promoting the coming ice age scare of the 1970’s ( See Time Magazine’s 1974 article “Another Ice Age” citing Bryson: & see Newsweek’s 1975 article “The Cooling World” citing Bryson) has now converted into a leading global warming skeptic. In February 8, 2007 Bryson dismissed what he terms "sky is falling" man-made global warming fears. Bryson, was on the United Nations Global 500 Roll of Honor and was identified by the British Institute of Geographers as the most frequently cited climatologist in the world. Bryson explained in 2005.  Link   Bryson agrees the Earth's temperature is rising but says man has little to do with it. "Of course it's going up," he said. "It has gone up since the early 1800s, because we're coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we're putting more carbon dioxide into the air."  Bryson noted ”There is a lot of money to be made in this,” he added. “If you want to be an eminent scientist you have to have a lot of grad students and a lot of grants. You can’t get grants unless you say, ‘Oh global warming, yes, yes, carbon dioxide.’”   Link

Professor Bob Carter  says the pubic has been brainwashed by politicians and bureaucrats into believing world industrialization has created "climate change" that will lead to widespread disaster. However, he shows that a period of similar warming occurred between 1918 and 1940 before industrialization really began, followed by a cooling between 1940 and 1965, a period during which human-caused emissions were accelerating.

John L. Casey  the Director of the Space and Science Research Center,  declared A new climate era has already started that is bringing predominantly colder global temperatures for many years into the future. In some years this new climate will create dangerously cold weather with significant ill-effects world wide. Global warming is over – a new cold climate has begun.”  Space & Science   Link

Ian Castles  The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the organization established to evaluate the effects of human activity on climate change--and hence provides the scientific rationales for UN actions on the issue.  Unfortunately, the assumptions it uses overstate potential manmade global warming by a large measure.   Link

Dr. Eigils Friis-Christensen  director of the Danish National Space Centre, vice-president of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, who argues that changes in the Sun's behavior could account for most of the warming attributed by the UN to man-made CO2.   Link

Dr. Ian D. Clark, a Paleoclimatologist professor of the Department of Earth Sciences at University of Ottawa, reversed his views on man-made climate change after further examining the evidence. “I used to agree with these dramatic warnings of climate disaster. “However, a few years ago, I decided to look more closely at the science and it astonished me. In fact there is no evidence of humans being the cause. There is, however, overwhelming evidence of natural causes such as changes in the output of the sun. This has completely reversed my views on the Kyoto protocol,” Clark explained. “Actually, many other leading climate researchers also have serious concerns about the science underlying the [Kyoto] Protocol,” he added.   Link

Piers Corbyn, Weather Action bulletin, December 2000.   "The problem we are faced with is that the meteorological establishment and the global warming lobby research bodies which receive large funding are now apparently so corrupted by the largesse they receive that the scientists in them have sold their integrity. Alexander Cockburn   There is still zero empirical evidence that anthropogenic production of carbon dioxide is making any measurable contribution to the world's present warming trend. The greenhouse fearmongers rely on unverified, crudely oversimplified models to finger mankind's sinful contribution--and carbon trafficking, just like the old indulgences, is powered by guilt, credulity, cynicism and greed.  Link

John Coleman, who founded the channel in 1982.  Coleman told an audience at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change on March 3 in New York that he is highly critical of global warming alarmism.  “The Weather Channel had great promise, and that’s all gone now because they’ve made every mistake in the book on what they’ve done and how they’ve done it and it’s very sad,”   Link   There is no significant man made global warming. There has not been any in the past, there is none now and there is no reason to fear any in the future. The climate of Earth is changing. It has always changed.   Link

Piers Corbyn,   a UK Astrophysicist, “There is no evidence that CO2 has ever driven or will ever drive world temperatures and climate change. The consequence of that is that worrying about CO2 is irrelevant. Our prediction is world temperatures will continue to decline until 2014 and probably continue to decline after that.”   Link

Joseph D'Aleo - On August 15, 2007, meteorologist Joseph D'Aleo, the first Director of Meteorology at The Weather Channel and former chairman of the American Meteorological Society's Committee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting, said, "If the atmosphere was a 100 story building, our annual anthropogenic (man-made) CO2 contribution today would be equivalent to the linoleum on the first floor."    Link

David Deming  Ph.D in geophysics from the University of Utah   I was contacted by a reporter for National Public Radio. He offered to interview me, but only if I would state that the warming was due to human activity. When I refused to do so, he hung up on me.  I had another interesting experience around the time my paper in Science was published. I received an astonishing email from a major researcher in the area of climate change. He said, “We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period.”

Prof. Freeman Dyson  one of the world's most eminent physicists says the models used to justify global warming alarmism are "full of fudge factors" and "do not begin to describe the real world."    Link

Dr. Don J. Easterbrook  The fact of the matter is an increasing amount of climate research suggests a possibility of global cooling. Geologist Dr. Don J. Easterbrook, Emeritus Professor at Western Washington University says, “Recent solar changes suggest that it could be fairly severe, perhaps more like the 1880 to 1915 cool cycle than the more moderate 1945-1977 cool cycle. A more drastic cooling, similar to that during the Dalton and Maunder minimums, could plunge the Earth into another Little Ice Age, but only time will tell if that is likely.”   Link

Kerry Emanuel  A remarkable new study, published in the March 2008 issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, concludes that global warming can’t be blamed for an increase in the number of hurricanes over the last 27 years.

While the new study is consistent with findings by hurricane scientists at the National Hurricane Center and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that global warming has not caused any increase in hurricane activity, the new study is most remarkable because the author of the study is none other than Kerry Emanuel, an atmospheric scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Emanuel has been in the forefront in asserting that humans have caused an increase in hurricane activity.   Link

Dr. David Evans, a Australian scientist  and mathematician who did carbon accounting for the Australian government, recently converted to a skeptical scientist about man-made global warming after reviewing the new scientific studies.  Link  "We now have quite a lot of evidence that carbon emissions definitely don't cause global warming.  We have the missing [human] signature [in the atmosphere], we have the IPCC models being wrong and we have the lack of a temperature going up the last 5 years," Evans said in an interview with the Inhofe EPW Press Blog.  Evans authored a November 28 2007 paper "Carbon Emissions Don't Cause Global Warming."  Link 

Amy Frappier, a Paleoclimatologist, Labels Climate Fears Oversimplified. Boston College’s professor of geology and geophysics Amy Frappier explained in February 2007, “The geologic record shows that many millions of years ago, CO2 levels were indeed higher - in some cases many times higher - than today.” Frappier noted that greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere do not consistently continue to have a warming effect on Earth, but gases instead stabilize in the atmosphere and cease having a warming effect. “At some point the heat-trapping capacity of [the gas] and its effect get saturated,” said Frappier, “and you don’t have increased heating.”   Link

Dr. Chris de Freitas Climate scientist of The University of Auckland, N.Z., also converted from a believer in man-made global warming to a skeptic. “At first I accepted that increases in human caused additions of carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere would trigger changes in water vapor etc. and lead to dangerous ‘global warming,’ But with time and with the results of research, I formed the view that, although it makes for a good story, it is unlikely that the man-made changes are drivers of significant climate variation.” de Freitas wrote on August 17, 2006.   Link

Dr. David Gee  Geologist Dr. David Gee, chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress, currently at Uppsala University in Sweden asks, “For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?”   Link

Ivar Giaever  Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever , Declares Himself Dissenter: ‘I am a skeptic’ ...  We have heard many similar warnings about the acid rain 30 years ago and the ozone hole 10 years ago or deforestation but the humanity is still around. The ozone hole width has peaked in 1993.  Moreover, global warming has become a new religion. We frequently hear about the number of scientists who support it. But the number is not important: only whether they are correct is important.    Link

Dr. Robert Giegengack an Ivy League Geologist and political supporter of Al Gore says: “If we reduced the rate at which we put carbon into the atmosphere, it won’t reduce the concentration in the atmosphere; CO2 is just going to come back out of these reservoirs.” (reservoirs such as the oceans, soil and permafrost)  Giegengack is explaining the heart of the scientific skepticism about CO2’s role in the Earth’s climate system.  But Giegengack is not finished. “In terms of [global warming’s] capacity to cause the human species harm, I don’t think it makes it into the top 10,” Giegengack said in an interview in the May/June 2007 issue of the Pennsylvania Gazette.    Link

Stanley B. Goldenberg  Atmospheric scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said, “It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.”   Link

William Gray   said that a natural cycle of ocean temperatures related to the amount of salt in ocean water was responsible for global warming, which he acknowledges has taken place. As part of this natural cycle, global temperatures will eventually cool again.   Link  Much of his government funding has dried up after claiming global warming isn’t man made and we are going toward global cooling.

Dr. Ivar Giaever, professor emeritus at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, professor at large at the University of Oslo and a 1973 winner of the Nobel Prize in physics, resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) in protest over the society’s rigid stance on climate change.  Link

India’s Glaciologists and Geologists stepped forward to reject climate alarmism in February 2007. They included VK Raina, a leading glaciologist in India, RK Ganjoo, the director of the Regional Centre for Field Operations and Research on Himalayan Glaciology and geologist MN Koul. “Claims of global warming causing glacial melt in the Himalayas are based on wrong assumptions,” Raina told the Hindustan Times    Link

Dr. Howard Hayden, a Physics Professor Emeritus, of the University of Connecticut: “The fluctuations in Earth’s temperature are caused by astronomical phenomena. The combined effects of all ‘greenhouse gases,’ albedo changes, and other Earthly changes account for no more than about 3 degrees C of the changes during transitions between ice ages and interglacials.”   Link

In a letter to USA Today he wrote; “As a scientist and life-long liberal Democrat, I find the constant regurgitation of the anecdotal, fear mongering clap-trap about human-caused global warming (the Levi, Borgerson article of 9/24/08) to be a disservice to science, to your readers, and to the quality of the political dialogue leading up to the election. The overwhelming weight of scientific evidence shows that the Gore-IPCC theory that human activity is causing global warming is false.”   Link

Art Horn, a Meteorologist: “There are thousands of scientists around the world who believe that this issue is not settled. The climate is not being influenced by carbon dioxide.”   Link

Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski a world-renowned expert on the ancient ice cores used in historical climate research. He says the U.N. "based its global-warming hypothesis on arbitrary assumptions and these assumptions, it is now clear, are false."   Link  Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski, a Physicist, is the  chairman of the Central Laboratory for the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Radiological Protection in Warsaw, took a scientific journey from a believer of man-made climate change in the form of global cooling in the 1970’s all the way to converting to a skeptic of current predictions of catastrophic man-made global warming. “At the beginning of the 1970s I believed in man-made climate cooling, and therefore I started a study on the effects of industrial pollution on the global atmosphere, using glaciers as a history book on this pollution,” Dr. Jaworowski, wrote on August 17, 2006. “With the advent of man-made warming political correctness in the beginning of 1980s, I already had a lot of experience with polar and high altitude ice, and I have serious problems in accepting the reliability of ice core CO2 studies,” Jaworowski added. Jaworowski, who has published many papers on climate with a focus on CO2 measurements in ice cores, also dismissed the UN IPCC summary and questioned what the actual level of C02 was in the atmosphere in a March 16, 2007 report in EIR science entitled “CO2: The Greatest Scientific Scandal of Our Time.”   Link

Martin Keeley, a palaeogeologist, "Global warming is indeed a scam, perpetrated by scientists with vested interests, but in need of crash courses in geology, logic and the philosophy of science."  Link

Dr. Kelvin Kemm  former scientist at South Africa’s Atomic Energy Corporation, wrote, “There is no evidence man-made CO2 causes climate change.”—Engineering News   Link

Madhav Khandekar, a PhD meteorologist Canada’s rejected the UN IPCC global warming report. “I think the IPCC science is a bit too simplistic,” said Khandekar in February 2007. “IPCC scientists did not thoroughly analyze why the Earth’s surface temperature — land and ocean combined — has increased only modestly in the past 30 years.”    Link

Hans H.J. Labohm   global warming author and economist , started out as a man-made global warming believer but he later switched his view after conducting climate research.  Labohm wrote on August 19, 2006, “I started as a anthropogenic global warming believer, then I read the [UN’s IPCC] Summary for Policymakers and the research of prominent skeptics.”  “After that, I changed my mind,” Labohn explained. Labohn co-authored the 2004 book “Man-Made Global Warming: Unraveling a Dogma,” with chemical engineer Dick Thoenes who was the former chairman of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society.   Link

David R. Legates  Delaware state climatologist and leading skeptic David R. Legates recently filed a friend of the court brief opposing his state's position in a multi-state lawsuit to force the Bush administration to impose stronger regulations on autos.  The state's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control objected because Delaware has taken the position that changes are needed to curb the risk of rising sea levels.   Link

Harold Lewis   Top Physics Professor Resigns From Post, Denouncing Global Warming "Fraud"

In perhaps the biggest critique delivered against the current state of global warming research "consensus", since "climategate" at the University of East Anglia, a renowned physics professor has written a lengthy letter resigning from the American Physical Society and condemning the state of warming research.

The letter was penned by Harold Lewis, an Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is addressed to Curtis G. Callan Jr, Princeton University, President of the American Physical Society.  ...

What he found was alarming to him and in his resignation letter, he voices outrage and what he feels is a financially-motivated fraud that is corrupting his fellow scientists.  His following resignation letter was published, in its entirety, by the  Academic Advisory Council of the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF), which he became a member of late this year.  The GWPF is a UK think tank that takes a critical stance on proposed global warming legislation.

Dr. Richard Lindzen, the Professor of Atmospheric Sciences of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) said   "With respect to science, consensus is often simply a sop to scientific illiteracy. After all, if what you are told is alleged to be supported by all scientists, then why do you have to bother to understand it? You can simply go back to treating it as a matter of religious belief, and you never have to defend this belief except to claim that you are supported by all scientists except for a handful of corrupted heretics."   Link   Dr. Lindzen, a member of the National Research Council Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, says global warming alarmists "are trumpeting catastrophes that couldn't happen even if the models were right."    Link

Professor James Lovelock  Only last year one of the fathers of warmist alarmism, Professor James Lovelock, predicted that, by the end of this century, climate change would have been responsible for billions of deaths, and that the only habitable places left on Earth would be the polar regions.  Last week, however, significantly retreating from his apocalyptic view, he told the World Nuclear Association that, even though temperatures might rise by a further five degrees, nature and humanity would learn to adjust. Ferenc Miskolczi an Atmospheric physicist, formerly with NASA’s Langley Research Center: “The runaway greenhouse effect is physically impossible. Patrick Moore is a critic of the environmental movement—an unlikely one at that. He was one of the cofounders of Greenpeace, and sailed into the Aleutian Islands on the organization's inaugural mission in 1971, to protest U.S. nuclear tests taking place there. After leading the group for 15 years he left abruptly, and, in a controversial reversal, has become an outspoken advocate of some of the environmental movement's most detested causes, chief among them nuclear energy. Dr. Tad Murty, climate researcher  and former Senior Research Scientist for Fisheries and Oceans in Canada, also reversed himself from believer in man-made climate change to a skeptic.  “I stated with a firm belief about global warming, until I started working on it myself,” Murty explained on August 17, 2006.  “I switched to the other side in the early 1990's when Fisheries and Oceans Canada asked me to prepare a position paper and I started to look into the problem seriously,” Murty explained. Murty was one of the 60 scientists who wrote an April 6, 2006 letter urging withdrawal of Kyoto to Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper which stated in part, "If, back in the mid-1990s, we knew what we know today about climate, Kyoto would almost certainly not exist, because we would have concluded it was not necessary.”  Link

David Noble a left-wing Professor  of Canada’s York University has joined the growing chorus of disenchanted liberal activists. Noble now believes that the movement has “hyped the global climate issue into an obsession.” Noble wrote a May 8 essay entitled “The Corporate Climate Coup” which details how global warming has “hijacked” the environmental left and created a “corporate climate campaign” which has “diverted attention from the radical challenges of the global justice movement.”   Link

Tim Patterson, a  Paleoclimatologist with the  Carlton University in Ottawa, converted from believer in C02 driving the climate change to a skeptic. “I taught my students that CO2 was the prime driver of climate change,” Patterson  wrote on April 30, 2007. Patterson said his “conversion” happened following his research on “the nature of paleo-commercial fish populations in the NE Pacific.”    Link   “Instead of wasting billions restricting emissions of CO2, a vitally important gas on which all life depends, governments must concentrate on solving known environmental problems over which we have influence - air, land and water pollution being obvious examples.“   Link

Jim Peden  an atmospheric physicist  wrote,  “As a dissenting physicist, I simply can no longer buy the notion that CO2 produces any significant warming of the atmosphere at any rate. I’ve studied the atomic absorption physics to death, from John Nicol’s extensive development to the much longer winded dissertation by Gerlich & Tscheuschner and everything in between, it simply doesn’t add up.--Qando.net    Link   “Many (scientists) are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.”   Link

Dr. Benny Peiser of the Faculty of Science of Liverpool John Moores University in UK: “[Global warming cap-and-trade bills have] caused so much trouble in Europe. It’s not working, it’s never going to work. It won’t have any effect on the climate, but only that there will be more unemployed in Europe. If that helps the climate, perhaps that is a solution.”  Link

Ian Plimer  Prize-wining Geologist Dr. Ian Plimer, a professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Adelaide in Australia: "There is new work emerging even in the last few weeks that shows we can have a very close correlation between the temperatures of the Earth and supernova and solar radiation.”    Link

Denis G. Rancourt professor of physics and an environmental science researcher at the University of Ottawa, believes the global warming campaign does a disservice to the environmental movement. Rancourt wrote on February 27, 2007: “Promoting the global warming myth trains people to accept unverified, remote, and abstract dangers in the place of true problems that they can discover for themselves by becoming directly engaged in their workplace and by doing their own research and observations. It trains people to think lifestyle choices (in relation to CO2 emission) rather than to think activism in the sense of exerting an influence to change societal structures.”  Most significantly, however, Rancourt—a committed left-wing activist and scientist—believes environmentalists have been duped into promoting global warming as a crisis. Finally, Rancourt asserted that in a warm world, life prospers. “There is no known case of a sustained warming alone having negatively impacted an entire population,” he said, “As a general rule, all life on Earth does better when it’s hotter: Compare ecological diversity and biotic density (or biomass) at the poles and at the equator,” he added.  Link

Bernie Rayno, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather said in February 2007, “Our climate has been changing since the dawn of time. There is not enough evidence to link global warming to greenhouse gases.”    Link

Prof. Paul Reiter chief of Insects and Infectious Diseases at the famed Pasteur Institute. He notes, "no major scientist with any long record in this field" accepts Gore's claim that global warming spreads mosquito-borne diseases.    Link  Link

Dr. Robert Revelle   pioneered the notion that increased carbon in the atmosphere might lead to increased CO2 and, possibly, some global warming. But Revelle was fairly sanguine about what would happen if that were true, unlike Gore, one of his Harvard students.  Three months before he died of a heart attack, Revelle co-authored an article called What to do About Greenhouse Warming: Look Before You Leap, which urged caution in any so-called solutions to global warming -- particularly any that could be "economically devastating."   Link

Art Robinson  Robinson's concern over the political manipulation of science earlier led him to launch the Petition Project, a compilation of more than 31,000 scientists – with more names arriving daily – who have voluntarily signed their names to the following statement:

"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."   Link

Russian scientists are criticizing very openly the AGW hypothesis. They do it with a frankness which - in this particular field - is still rare in the 'free world'. Usually scientists shroud their statements in clouds of caveats. Even the IPCC follows this tradition to a certain extent. But Russian climatologists do not. They simply state that a new little ice age is imminent. Not so long ago it was astronomer Khabibullo Abdusamatov of the Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in St. Petersburg, who declared that the Earth will experience a 'mini Ice Age' in the middle of this century, caused by low solar activity. Now it is the climatologist Olech Sorochtin, member of the Russian Academy of Physical Science, who joins him.    Link

Dr. Klaus-Martin Schulte, a medical researcher, recently updated this research. Using the same database and search terms as Oreskes, he examined all papers published from 2004 to February 2007. The results have been submitted to the journal Energy and Environment, of which DailyTech has obtained a pre-publication copy. The figures are surprising.  Of 528 total papers on climate change, only 38 (7%) gave an explicit endorsement of the consensus. If one considers "implicit" endorsement (accepting the consensus without explicit statement), the figure rises to 45%. However, while only 32 papers (6%) reject the consensus outright, the largest category  (48%) are neutral papers, refusing to either accept or reject the hypothesis.  This is no "consensus."  Schulte's survey contradicts the United Nation IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report (2007), which gave a figure of "90% likely" man was having an impact on world temperatures.  But does the IPCC represent a consensus view of world scientists? Despite media claims of "thousands of scientists" involved in the report, the actual text is written by a much smaller number of "lead authors."  The summary is written by only politicians which is the only thing that the vast majority of the media read.  By contrast, the ISI Web of Science database covers 8,700 journals and publications, including every leading scientific journal in the world.   Link

Peter Sciaky  a geologist, echoes this growing backlash of left-wing activists about global warming.  Sciaky, who describes himself as a “liberal and a leftist” wrote on June 9: “I do not know a single geologist who believes that [global warming] is a man-made phenomenon.”    Link

Prof. Tom V. Segalstad  head of the Geological Museum, University of Oslo--says "most leading geologists" know the U.N.'s views "of Earth processes are implausible."    Link

Dr. Nir Shaviv, an Astrophysicist, one of Israel’s top young scientists recanted his belief in manmade emissions driving climate change. “Like many others, I was personally sure that CO2 is the bad culprit in the story of global warming,” Shaviv said in January 2007. But Shaviv now points to growing peer reviewed evidence that the sun has been driving the temperature changes and said, “Solar activity can explain a large part of the 20th-century global warming.”    Link   I realized that things are far more complicated than the story sold to us by many climate scientists or the stories regurgitated by the media.    Link

Dr. S. Fred Singer  president of The Science & Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) and author of Hot Talk, Cold Science: Global Warming's Unfinished Debate, explained:   "Scientists are understandably upset when they see $2 billion per year devoted to research on climate change, much it irrelevant and concerned only with imaginary consequences of a hypothetical warming -- while other fields of science are starved. They are also appalled and angry that an increasing fraction of this research money is diverted into "community workshops," thinly disguised brainwashing exercises to create public fears about climate catastrophes."     Link   Dr. Singer has fought the mainstream before and was proven correct.  Most notably he argued with famous scientist Carl Sagan on the effects of the massive oil fires in Kuwait after Operation Desert Storm.  Dr. Singer’s prediction of no lasting effect was correct and Dr. Sagan’s prediction of dire consequences (which received more air time) were proven incorrect.    Link

Hajo Smit  Meteorologist Hajo Smit of Holland, and former member of the Dutch UN IPCC committee became a skeptic because of Al Gore..  “Gore prompted me to start delving into the science again and I quickly found myself solidly in the skeptic camp…Climate models can at best be useful for explaining climate changes after the fact.”   Link

Dr. Sami Solanki  director and scientific member at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany, who argues that changes in the Sun's state, not human activity, may be the principal cause of global warming: "The sun has been at its strongest over the past 60 years and may now be affecting global temperatures."    Link

James Spann, a Meteorologist, said in January that he does “not know of a single TV meteorologist who buys into the man-made global warming hype” and he noted that “Billions of dollars of grant money is flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon.”   Link

Roy Spencer   a Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville since 2001, before which we was a Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center   It is now reasonably certain that changes in solar radiation cause temperature changes on Earth — for instance, the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo caused a 2% to 4% reduction in sunlight, resulting in two years of below normal temperatures.   Link

Philip Stott, a retired biogeographer,  The global warming "crisis" is misguided. In hubristically seeking to "control" climate, we foolishly abandon age-old adaptations to inexorable change. There is no way we can predictably manage this most complex of coupled, nonlinear chaotic systems. The inconvenient truth is that "doing something" (emitting gases) at the margins and "not doing something" (not emitting gases) are equally unpredictable.  Climate change is a norm, not an exception. It is both an opportunity and a challenge. The real crises for 4 billion people in the world remain poverty, dirty water and the lack of a modern energy supply. By contrast, global warming represents an ecochondria of the pampered rich.  Link

Henrik Svensmark, climate scientist, released a report in February 2007 with researchers at the Danish National Space Centre which shows that the planet is experiencing a natural period of low cloud cover due to fewer cosmic rays entering the atmosphere. “We have the highest solar activity we have had in at least 1,000 years,” Svensmark said.   Link

Prof. Hendrik Tennekes  director of research, Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute--states "there exists no sound theoretical framework for climate predictability studies" used for global warming forecasts.

Dr. John Theon  Jim Hanson's former boss Retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr. John Theon tells the Senate’s Environment and Public Works minority subcommittee, climate modeling is not all that it claims to be:    My own belief concerning anthropogenic climate change is that the models do not realistically simulate the climate system because there are many very important sub-grid scale processes that the models either replicate poorly or completely omit. Furthermore, some scientists have manipulated the observed data to justify their model results. In doing so, they neither explain what they have modified in the observations, nor explain how they did it. They have resisted making their work transparent so that it can be replicated independently by other scientists. This is clearly contrary to how science should be done. Thus there is no rational justification for using climate model forecasts to determine public policy.  Link

Dr. Richard Tol  Principal researcher at the Institute for Environmental Studies at Vrije Universiteit, and Adjunct Professor at the Center for Integrated Study of the Human Dimensions of Global Change, at Carnegie Mellon University, calls the most influential global warming report of all time "preposterous . . . alarmist and incompetent."    Link

Dr. Jan Veizer, an environmental geochemist professor emeritus of University of Ottawa, converted from believer to skeptic after conducting scientific studies of climate history. “I simply accepted the (global warming) theory as given,” Veizer wrote on April 30, 2007 about predictions that increasing C02 in the atmosphere was leading to a climate catastrophe. “The final conversion came when I realized that the solar/cosmic ray connection gave far more consistent picture with climate, over many time scales, than did the CO2 scenario,”  Link

Dr. Gerd-Rainer Weber, a German Meteorogist: “Most of the extremist views about climate change have little or no scientific basis. The rational basis for extremist views about global warming may be a desire to push for political action on global warming.”    Link

Dr. Edward Wegman  former chairman of the Committee on Applied and Theoretical Statistics of the National Academy of Sciences--demolishes the famous "hockey stick" graph that launched the global warming panic.

Bruce West  The Army is weighing in on the global warming debate, claiming that climate change is not man-made.  Instead, Dr. Bruce West, with the Army Research Office, argues that "changes in the earth’s average surface temperature are directly linked to ... the short-term statistical fluctuations in the Sun’s irradiance and the longer-term solar cycles."   Link

Bruno Wiskel , a Geologist, of the University of Alberta recently reversed his view of man-made climate change and instead became a global warming skeptic. Wiskel was once such a big believer in man-made global warming that he set out to build a “Kyoto house” in honor of the UN sanctioned Kyoto Protocol which was signed in 1997.  Wiskel wanted to prove that the Kyoto Protocol’s goals were achievable by people making small changes in their lives. But after further examining the science behind Kyoto, Wiskel reversed his scientific views completely and became such a strong skeptic, that he recently wrote a book titled “The Emperor's New Climate: Debunking the Myth of Global Warming.”   Link

Ian Wilson "Anthropogenic (man-made) global warming bites the dust," said astronomer Ian Wilson after reviewing the study, the fruits of a project called "Heat Capacity, Time Constant, and Sensitivity of Earth's Climate System." In a letter to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, Wilson said: "Effectively this (new study) means that the global economy will spend trillions of dollars trying to avoid a warming of (about) 1.0 Kelvin by 2100 A.D."   Link

Canadian Environmental Minister John Baird said meeting Kyoto’s emissions reduction targets in Canada would require an economic collapse similar to Russia’s post-Communist fall.   Link

Senator Inhofe said on September 25th.    “The history of the modern environmental movement is chock-full of predictions of doom that never came true. We have all heard the dire predictions about the threat of overpopulation, resource scarcity, mass starvation, and the projected death of our oceans. None of these predictions came true, yet it never stopped the doomsayers from continuing to predict a dire environmental future. The more the eco-doomsayers’ predictions fail, the more the eco-doomsayers predict,” Link  

Senator Inhofe Chastises Media For Unscientific & Unprincipled Climate Reporting   Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, commented last week on the media’s unfounded global warming hype and some of the recent scientific research that is shattering the so-called “consensus” that human greenhouse gas emissions have doomed the planet.  “The American people are fed up with media for promoting the idea that former Vice President Al Gore represents the scientific ‘consensus’ that SUV’s and the modern American way of life have somehow created a ‘climate emergency’ that only United Nations bureaucrats and wealthy Hollywood liberals can solve. It is the publicity and grant seeking global warming alarmists and their advocates in the media who have finally realized that the only “emergency” confronting them is their rapidly crumbling credibility, audience and bottom line. The global warming alarmists know their science is speculative at best and their desperation grows each day as it becomes more and more obvious that many of the nations that ratified the woeful Kyoto Protocol are failing to comply,” Senator Inhofe said last week.   Link    “The mainstream media needs to follow the money: The further you get from scientists who conduct these alarmist global warming studies, and the further you get from the financial grants and the institutions that they serve the more the climate alarmism fades and the skepticism grows,” Senator Inhofe explained.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus  told a Czech newspaper on February 8, 2007 that fears of catastrophic man-made global warming were a “myth” and critiqued the UN IPCC process, calling it a “political body.” Klaus also said other government leaders would speak out, but “political correctness strangles their voice.”   Link

Lord Christopher Monckton, who served as a special adviser to former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, argued, modern-day politicians should not fool themselves into thinking that humanity is having a big impact on climate.   Link  Lord Monckton wrote an open letter to Senator Rockefeller and Snowe for the letter warning Exxon to not pay scientists for Global Warming Studies.   He said "You defy every tenet of democracy when you invite ExxonMobil to deny itself the right to provide information to 'senior elected and appointed government officials' who disagree with your opinion."    Link

The Death of Environmentalism by Messrs. Nordhaus and Shellenberger  (They have worked for environmental organizations for years.)  They want to replace the pollution paradigm with a progressive one.  ... They want "an explicitly pro-growth agenda," on the theory that investment, innovation and imagination may ultimately do more to improve the environment than punitive regulation and finger-wagging rhetoric. To stabilize atmospheric carbon levels will take more--much more--than regulation; it will require "unleashing human power, creating a new economy."    Link

Mariano Rajoy  Spanish opposition leader, spoke out against climate orthodoxy on October 23. Rajoy said, “No scientist has guaranteed to me what the weather will be like tomorrow” and he then asked “How can anyone know what will happen in the world within 300 years?”  Link

Chancellor Helmut Schmidt  the former German Chancellor, said on June 4 that fears of global warming were “hysterical” and “overheated” and called efforts to control the Earth’s temperature “idiotic.”  Link

Sammy Wilson, the Irish Environment Minister, has become the most recent social leper. He recently told the European press, “I think in 20 years’ time we will look back at this whole climate change debate and ask ourselves how on earth were we ever conned into spending the billions of pounds which are going into this without any kind of rigorous examination of the background, the science, the implications of it all.”    Link

Estate owners sue Greenpeace for prediction  at Expatica  June 11, 2008   The organizers’ graphic prediction on how global warming will affect La Manga has caused sales of houses in the coastal area to drop by 50 percent.   MADRID - A group of real estate developers and property owners in La Manga del Mar Menor - a spit of sandy, low-lying coastal land and Murcia's premier beach resort - are threatening to take Greenpeace to court over its graphic predictions of what global warming may do to the area, which they say have caused house prices to plummet.  Link
